Emergency Poncho

If you haven't figured out by now, we folks at Jerry Lee's aren't the biggest fans of single-purpose products...  The more useful the item, the more we love it!  This may just be a run-of-the-mill plastic rain poncho, BUT we like it because you can use these for so much more.

Wait... WHAT?  A poncho that will help protect me from a bomb???  Yes, actually it can, and allow us to explain.  We are not claiming that it is made of anything special, we are simply looking at how it's function relates to the way a "dirty bomb" works.  These improvised weapons work by using an explosion to disperse radioactive material into the air.  Many experts believe the material most likely to be used will be low level (alpha & beta), therefore the primary hazard comes from inhalation, ingestion, and prolonged skin contact.  Keep the airborne dust and particles off your body, and out of your body, and your chances of healthy survival increase exponentially.

The poncho simply helps cover your hair and exposed skin, while covering clothing to prevent excessive radioactive material from collecting in it.  Best used in conjunction with a face mask, glasses, gloves, and an appropriate decontamination once clear of the "hot" zone.

No, this is no lead lined radiation suit, but most of us cannot afford one of those, and we've noticed that they're a bit too bulky to keep in your pocket - unlike this emergency poncho!
