 Product Description

As a self proclaimed flashlight connoisseur, this has been my everyday go-to flashlight for the past 15+ years.  Don't trust my judgement?  Just ask the thousands of firefighters and rescue professionals across the globe who trust their safety to this solid light.  It's not a tactical or weapon light, just a super reliable, tough as nails, all-purpose flashlight!

The ProPolymer 4AA features a virtually indestructible case, a rubber face for impact resistance, and an unbreakable polycarbonate lens.  Illumination is provided by 7 white LEDs, producing 67 lumens.  The light is waterproof, and is UL rated for use in hazardous environments.  The pushbutton switch is end mounted and offers momentary (blink) or push on/push off operation.

So the stats and reputation of this light speak for themselves, but I want to discuss the REAL reason why I chose this light for my 72 Hour Bag...

  • AA battery powered flashlights are the simply the best choice for survival applications.  The AA is probably the most popular and easy to find battery size, portable solar chargers are available, they provide significantly more power than AAA cells, and are only 1/5 the weight of a D cell.
  • The choice of a LED vs. incandescent light source is obvious - durability, power draw, light output, and bulb life.
  • Why not the higher output Lux model of the PP4AA?  First is redundancy - while LED's have remarkably long life span, they are subject to premature failure.  One LED = one chance, and hoping you didn't get the lemon of the production lot. Remember, when it comes to a survival mindset, "two is one, and one is none".  After 15 years of use, two of the LEDs in my light have have gone dark.  Sure, they're "supposed to" last 100,000 hours - in theory, but in the real world it doesn't always work out that way.  Nonetheless, with 5 LEDs still working, I STILL use that light and it is every bit as useful as the day I bought it.  Redundancy is key to survival!
  • Finally battery life is a major factor in making my decision.  High output 2,000 lumen flashlights are AWESOME, but when the batteries only last 2-4 hours, are they right for survival applications?  Absolutely not!  The Streamlight ProPolymer 4AA models 19MCR7 & 18RJT7 that we sell boast an impressive 155 hour battery life under constant use.  Now you will not be using the light continually, so imagine how that number goes up?

I looked and looked, I compared dozens of lights, and every time I came back to one. With a lifetime warranty, and a price tag under $30 - it's a no-brainer!
